To make a bootable pendrive for windows operating system is a very easy step with the help of the cmd – command prompt, which comes by default in the windows operating system. But before procedding to this steps we need the Windows Operating System ISO files for making the pendrive bootable. The following steps to make a bootable pendrive is supported fo the Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012 series of operating system. Before starting the process you need to have a minimum of Windows 7 Operatiing System to initiate the process for making a pendrive bootable.
Step 1 : Open the Command Prompt in your Windows 7 Operating System with the Administrator Privileges. and enter the below command.
Step 2: Then it will take you in to the disk partition table, there you need to enter the below command.
Step 3: After entering the above command, you can see a list of disk which will be displayed in the command prompt, here you need to know the pendrive’s disk number. You can find it by using the size of the pen-drive. After finding which disk belongs to pen-drive make a note of it, it will like this eg. Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2 etc…
Step 4 : If you get to know the disk number for your pen-drive, then select the disk by entering the below command. Here i am using the Disk 1 as an example.
select disk 1
Step 5: After selecting the disk enter the below series of commands to format the pendrive in the NTFS file system.
clean create partition primary select partition 1 active
Step 6 : Now you need to format the pendrive by entering the below command.
Step : After the command gets finished type the below command to exit the disk partition table.
Step 8 : After the formatting is done, copy all the files from the Windows 7 or later ISO file to the Pendrive. After the copying is done try to boot your pendrive by making it as first boot device in your system or laptop.
This steps for making the bootable pendrive may not work properly in your Windows 8 Operating System, since it will not support in making the primary partition from the command prompt. After making you bootable pendrive, make sure the files were copied from the DVD or the ISO to the bootable pendrive, if not then the bootable pendrive will not boot from the system and it will show the “Boot loader missing Error”.
